1. Sand tables are waist height, so your kids can play in the sand without getting in the box. It keeps the sand in the sandbox and out of their shoes and pockets.
2. Sand sculpting is art, architecture, engineering and physics. Best of all, it's safe, healthy play. To develop innovative, creative thinking, supply various tools and toys for sculpting, such as putty scrapers, kitchen odds and ends, and cookie cutters.
3. Creative play is less competitive. Kids watch each other, work together, inspire each other and fight less. Become a kid yourself and join in the fun - model the behavior you want to see, rather than telling/directing.
4. Sand and water are a natural pair. Consider a table with bins and toys for each. Best of all, they can be emptied and cleaned easily.
5. Processed play sand, such as Moon Sand, is stickier, so it's easier to shape and sculpt. For the same reason, it's less messy. Plus, it's designed not to stain carpet and clothing. Nothing beats purple sand!
6. Sand is porous, so it's easy to tint with a little water and food coloring. Doing this WITH your kids makes for a fun science activity. Similarly you can tint the water in a sand and water table, and create a whole new world of play.
